Sunflowers 4 Soldiers

By jane • July 7, 2015

In 2010 I fractured and crushed 5 vertebrae training for the Royal Artillery Gold Cup, a military horse race. As a result I never completed a tour of duty or fulfilled my ambition to transition from the Honourable Artillery Company to the Army Legal Service. Now it is time to do my bit for the men and women that did and all soldiers that have served our country past, present and future.

Horseback UK founded by Royal Marine, Jock Hutchison and his wife, Emma, are helping these severely injured men & women rebuild their lives with the help of our equine friends.

Royal Marine L/Cpl Hare stated, 'I pay my psychologist in hay and water,' (2hrs 21)and it was confirmed...

The Sunflowers 4 Soldiers Challenge - On the 12th July 2015 I will begin walking the 630 mile South West Coast Path and will plant 616 sunflowers for each of the soldiers that were severely wounded as a result of the war in Afghanistan.

Why the sunflower; it is always facing the sun, the primary source of energy for life itself.

This pleasant coastal walk with my dogs, Sid & Winston, was going to be a relaxing holiday in quaint B & B's. NOT ANYMORE. No overnight stop offs, a continuous trek, food/rest breaks during the day and night fueled by Army Ration Packs until complete, beginning in Minehead, Somerset and finishing in Poole Harbour, Dorset.

When you're injured you don't get a holiday, mentally or physically, and this challenge needs to resonate with that.

Any amount of sponsorship for this wonderful charity, pounds or pennies, will be hugely appreciated. Many thanks.
