A 16-year-old found a caterpillar about three weeks ago and decided to keep it because it was "so big and so cute" and he didn't want it to get stepped on. So he named it after the first thing that came to mind...

Chicken Nugget's journey toward becoming Chicken Wing the Butterfly has touched the hearts of thousands on Tumblr this summer.

"So apparently, Chicken Nugget is a spicebush swallowtail and they turn yellow before they pupate," the teen, Oddity, wrote in the original Tumblr post. "He was making little silk things everywhere. Bruh, this caterpie is going to evolve to metapod today my boy isn’t messing around."

Oddity made it a nice home and then documented the entire process of Chicken Nugget's metamorphosis.

Chicken Nugget was in a chrysalis for about 14 days.

On Sunday, Chicken Nugget emerged out of his chrysalis as a butterfly.

Sadly, Oddity was not there to witness the moment due to marching band practice.

"I was freaking out because I couldn’t go home but I knew he was going to come out that day. When I came home he was flying around my bathroom where I was keeping him."

Chicken Nugget stayed overnight as "his wings were still weird" and then was set free the next day.

Oddity told BuzzFeed that he was pleasantly surprised by the positive reaction to Chicken Nugget’s story and that the whole experience has been "a little unreal."
