My Project Of Love
By Chris A. Hughes • April 16, 2014
The catalyst for my personal Project Of Love began when I was a young displaced, teenager. At the age of 16, homeless and hungry, I learned help and resources were hard to come by. I learned to survive and be self-sustaining. I taught myself business, read books and developed a talent for generating revenue. I also made a promise to myself that when the time came, if I was ever able, I would do my best to help people in need.
The more I traveled the more I witness that poverty has different levels.
The Project Of Love is my way of fulfilling the promise made to myself as a teenager. For the last 5 months I've spent at least one week a month travelling to numerous rural villages around Cuba and spreading love. I'm committed to getting clean running water and food supplies to these remote, desolate, villages in the region. I provide them with care packages, farming supplies and livestock so they can be self sustaining. The road hasn't been smooth and I've had a couple of run-ins with local police. For the most part, I've never had any problems, just smiles. Cubans are a resilient community of loving, caring individuals.
I give back and pay it forward as much as I can.
I have donated over $25,000 of my personal income to helping remote villages and I will continue to give more. My experience has been exhilarating and I can't wait to travel to other villages in other nations to spread love and sustainability in those precious communities. I will be heading to Haiti in June and my Project of Love will continue.
