A vast steel sculpture, 8m x 8m x 8m, was lowered deep into the Pacific Ocean. This giant star sculpture will be stored into the Marianas trench over 36,000 feet below the surface. That's 100 miles off Saipan Island between Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.
Now, are you ready for the plot twist? It's going to be full of human blood and hair samples... DNA.

According to the Deep Storage Project website, this is art and hard science colliding head on. Over 30 locations around the world have attracted 5,000 willing donors, or investors, if you like. All were rewarded with certificates proving they believed this might be a second chance.
The Deep Storage Project believes that there will come a day 500 years, or maybe 100,000 years from now where humans could be an endangered species. The corrosion-resistant stainless-steel surface and lack of oxygen at such depths will keep the star's polish intact for millennia, so it might one day catch the light from a passing watercraft.
