Starbucks To Hire 10,000 Vets. And It's Not A Charity, They Want Their Skills

The unemployment rate for veterans is high, but Starbucks is stepping in to make a difference. Reps for the coffee chain announced it's plan to hire 10,000 veterans and military spouses in its US stores over the next five years.

And it's not for charity. Starbucks believes that veterans possess the skills desired in the workforce including leadership, communication, team work, and problem solving.

"Veterans and military spouses represent one of the most underutilized talent pools in our country, and without the proper career path, will continue to go untapped," said Starbucks board member and former Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, adding, "Companies like Starbucks recognize this opportunity and are moving swiftly and aggressively to match the jobs they will create in the future with the talent returning to America over the next several years."

With 20,000 locations around the world, Starbucks also says it will designate five stores in military communities where a portion of each transaction is donated to Operation Good Jobs and Vested in Vets.
