Teen sisters lift 3,000-pound tractor to save father's life

April 11, 2013

Jeff Smith, a farmer in Oregon, can thank his two teenage daughters for being alive today. Hannah, 16, and Haylee, 14, managed to lift a 3,000 pound tractor off their father's chest while he was pinned into the ground.

Jeff was trying to remove a tree stump from his garden when his foot suddenly slipped off the tractor, causing the massive machine to flip over backards. Jeff was pinned underneath with no one around to help.

Luckily, Hannah and Haylee were not too far away walking the dog when they heard screams for help.

"It was scary because it was on my chest, everytime I called out for help it was kind of like a constrictor," Jeff said. "Every time I yelled out I lost some of that. I could only get some of that back."

Hannah and Haylee found their father screaming non-stop.

"He was just laying in the dirt under neath the tractor and he was just screaming. He would not stop screaming, explained Hannah."

First, the girls tried to dig him out but it wasn't working. So they went with plan B and together lifted the 3,000 pound machine off of him.

Hannah claims it was a miracle that they were even around.

"I just can't believe it happened, honestly. We were supposed to go to a friend's house. I don't know why we didn't," she told the Albany Democrat-Herald newspaper.

Jeff suffered a few broken bones, bruises and cuts but will make a full recovery.
