Man with Brain Cancer Wins Marathon While Pushing Daughter
March 14, 2013
A man literally racing against time crossed the finish line first while pushing his daughter in a stroller over 26 miles.
32 year-old Iram Leon has been diagnosed with brain cancer, and is slowly losing his memory. Doctor's do not think he will make it past age 40.
"This is supposed to eat away at my memory in the end," Iram Leon said of the cancer in his left temporal lobe. "But I hope this memory is one of the last things to go and one she never loses."
Iram's daughter is his whole world and his inspiration. The marathon made an exception for Iram to run with a stroller so he could push his daughter. One would think pushing a stroller would be a disadvantage, but to Iram it was his fuel.
"It can't be a disadvantage when it's what gets you going," Iram said.
Iram's condition does now allow him to drive a car, and he can't register left turns. His running group usually directs him, but at this race it was his daughter.
Iram had some great words of advice to all that are healthy and alive.
"People shouldn't wait to live until they're told they're dying," Leon said. "Go home and hug somebody and don't wait to be told you have a disease that's going to kill you. I ran my entire life and I was dumb enough to wait until I was told I was dying before I ran with my daughter."
