LEGO sends 10 year-old autistic boy his dream birthday present
December 6, 2012
James Groccia, a 10 year-old boy from Massachusetts, saved his money for 2 whole years to purchase LEGO's Emerald Night train set, only to find out it has been discontinued.
After saving his allowance, holiday, and birthday money for two years, James finally had the $100 to purchase Emerald Night Train.
Completely heart broken, James wrote a letter to LEGO telling them his story hoping there was a way to purchase the train set.
In his letter he tells LEGO how their products help treat his condition, Asperger's Syndrome, which is an autism spectrum disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction.
Apparently, the only way to get the train set is by paying $250 on Amazon, since the set is now considered a collector's item.
LEGO wrote a letter back to James letting him know that the set had been discontinued, and didn’t say much else.
But two days before his birthday, a box arrived from LEGO, along with a note.
"The Emerald Night Train is a wonderful set, so we can understand why it is your dream to own it. I commend your willpower and patience to save money for over two years just to purchase this. We have located an Emerald Night Train for you, James, and included it in this package! I am sure you will enjoy building it and cherish your time playing with the train. Fans like you are why we are so lucky as a company. Who knows, maybe you will be working for The LEGO Group one day! You certainly have the heart and passion for our bricks to do so! Happy building, James!"
Thanks LEGO for this heartwarming feel good story!
