School Principal Moved To Tears By This Selfless Decision From The Senior Class

May 31, 2015

After years of fundraising, the senior class of New Hampshire's Profile Senior High School saved $8,000 for their senior trip to Ridin' Hy Ranch and Resort - four days of revelry and relaxation in New York's Adirondack Mountains.

But about a week before the trip, the students took a vote and made the heartfelt decision to give the money raised for their senior class trip to the school’s principal, Courtney Vashaw, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

"We decided not to go on our senior class trip this year and donate all of our funds to your cause," class treasurer Ian Baker said.

Vashaw shook her head and covered her eyes, overcome with emotion.

"It is very hard for me to accept help, and I have no idea what to say to you," she said.

"She's just very caring, very selfless, and we wanted to be selfless, too," said Baker.

"Every one of us has a connection with her, and she has given so much to us that we just wanted to give back," said Christopher Sirois, the senior class president.

"She is one of the strongest, most determined women I know and if it can happen to her, you know anything can happen to anyone," said Hunter Leighton, a senior.

Principal Vashaw said she is a private person, but since she wouldn't be at school for a while, she knew she had to tell them about her illness.

She said she teaches the students that it’s important to do something bigger than yourself, and this act of kindness is proof they are listening.
