Man Breaks The Strict Rules Of His Religion To Save A Child's Life

A photo of a Sikh man abandoning the rules of his faith to help an injured child is going viral.

Harman Singh took off his headdress to cradle the bleeding head of a 5 year-old boy who had just been hit by a vehicle on his way to school.

Singh said:

"I saw a child down on the ground and a lady was holding him. His head was bleeding, so I unveiled my turban and put it under his head.

I wasn't thinking about the turban. I was thinking about the accident and I just thought, 'He needs something on his head because he’s bleeding.' That's my job - to help. And I think anyone else would have done the same as me."

Singh stayed with the young boy until emergency services arrived.

Doctors said the injuries could have been life-threatening, but he's in stable condition after surgery for a fractured skull. He is expected to be released from the hospital by the end of the week, but a full recovery will still take time.

Meanwhile, Singh said he had been inundated with messages of support from around the world.

"I have had a lot of calls, a lot of messages. People are saying, 'I'm proud of you' and saluting me - I can't even reply to all of the messages but I want to say that I am not a hero, I just wanted to get there for him and help the little boy."
