9 Year-Old Uses Birthday Money To Save Aging Racehorse On Death Row
March 28, 2015
A 9 year-old with a huge heart didn't want to buy toys with his birthday money. He wanted to save a horse's life.
Brandon Heyman of Ontario did just that and saved an aging racehorse that had just been purchased by a meat buyer.
His mother came across the 17-year-old mare on the website Need You Now Equine.
"Nobody seemed interested in her," Brandon's mother, MJ Allen, told The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, an equine sanctuary. "My son asked what was I doing, and when I explained it to him, he said, 'Mummy, my birthday's coming up. Just give my birthday money to them. I don't want the horse to die.'"
She was so touched by her son's request that she raised the remaining $650 needed to buy her and surprised Brandon with a new best friend.
