Toys "R" Us may have shut its doors for good, but the San Antonio Zoo is hoping to give its mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe, a new job as an ambassador for giraffes in the wild.

The zoo released a new video on Thursday asking the owners of Toys "R" Us to consider allowing the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to use the beloved mascot to promote the protection of the species.
"This is a chance for Geoffrey and the great people at Toys "R" Us to leave a legacy gift that has the potential to change the world and bring smiles to children for generations to come," said Tim Morrow, CEO of the San Antonio Zoo.
The zoo believes Geoffrey now could use his celebrity status to inspire future generations to protect giraffes, whose populations are estimated to be at less than 100,000 worldwide.
The zoo has started a GoFundMe campaign titled "Help San Antonio Zoo Save Geoffrey" to raise money for the Giraffe Conservation Foundation.
