April 4, 2015

This is the cursed Ohio mansion that Mike Tyson owned in the 90s. Photographer Johnny Joo won access to it before its imminent transformation into, of all things, a church.

Tyson lost the home to financial difficulties in 1999, a few years after his release from prison. The Holyfield ear biting incident cost him $3 million alone.

Paul Monea bought the home for $1.3 million in 1999, but ended up in prison for tax evasion a few years later. After his release, he was eventually sent back to prison for money laundering and conspiracy.

It sold at a sheriff's sale in late 2009 to the only bidder, fitness club owner Ron Hemelgarn for $600,000. Hemelgarn had had the property up for sale off and on since 2011, and finally gave up and donated it to Living Word Sanctuary.

The founders plan on turning it into a church.
