Off duty firefighter and advocate for the homeless saves woman from drowning in river

February 12, 2013

Off duty firefighter Brian Busby believes it was more than a coincidence that guided him to a woman drowning in a river.

Walking along a trail to meet with some homeless people who live along the river bend, Busby heard a local fisherman yelling for help.

Busby ran over to the river to see a woman holding on to a log as the strong moving current was pulling her under. Hanging on by a prayer, her fait was now in Busby's hands.

Busby climbed out onto the wet, slippery log and grabbed a hold of the woman, determined not to let go.

Officers arrived and helped until a water rescue team showed up to pull the woman and Busby to safety. She is now recuperating at home.

Busby, a religious man, spends most of his free time helping the homeless. He believes it was more than a coincidence that guided him to her.

"It's obvious to me God directed my steps. He had me out there along that trail at just the right time."
