To Value It, Invest In It

By Job Lazarus Okello • June 20, 2017

It's a known fact to man that for you to value something, you must invest in it. Therefore, invest in your life that you may value it. You are at school and want to value your education? Invest in it. To value your future, invest in it. For whatever you invest in, you'll treasure and hold in high regards. He who wastes his life hasn't really invested much in it. Those who don't take their studies seriously haven't made sufficient investment in their studies. It's very common to find people drinking the whole day and failing to fulfill their responsibilities in life, such people haven't really invested a lot in their lives. They therefore don’t value their lives. Invest in your family that you may treasure it. Invest in your parents, children, relatives, friends, etc, but most importantly, invest in yourself. Add value to yourself everyday. That way, you will make yourself valuable to the world. Don't waste your life as if you just borrowed it from someone. No body should treasure your life more than you.

The world is very unforgiving to those who don't value their lives. Create demand for yourself by investing in your life; when you do that, you will become so good in a niche that people can't and won’t ignore you in it. It's just a matter of choice. You can choose to be different and make a difference with your life. Don't just follow the crowd, rather stand out if it. You aren't meant to follow the crowd but to set yourself apart that the world may count on you. Make that choice and live it. Value your life. Don't waste it. Don't bring into your life whatever destroys it. The world over, a lot of people are dying just because they allowed into their lives what is destructive. For example countless people today are succumbing to Lung cancer which they got through smoking. Numerous examples can be cited here.

It's your responsibility to invest in your life, to be watchful over it and protect it. Don't let others influence you to make decisions and do things that ruin your life, be in charge of your life. If your friends decide for you, then you aren't fully in charge of your life. You have handed it over to them such that they choose whatever they want to do with it and carry on to do it. Choose to be different. Do something that makes you a better person everyday. Let the world see the value you are adding to your life. You will be admired and honored for that. The best investment you can ever make is investment in yourself.

Read books, attend seminars, conferences, prayer meetings, fellowships, etc and acquire knowledge and skills, to discover, build and develop yourself. Some people are meant to be the leaders of tomorrow, others teachers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc but that will not happen if they waste their lives today. Remember wasting life is simultaneous with wasting opportunities. If you waste your life, you might miss the opportunity to become that person you're meant to become. You were created not just to pass through the earth but to bring something into it, to positively transform it, to subdue it, to make a difference somewhere, somehow, with your gifts, talents, abilities and potential. Don’t hold back anything.

You may waste your life once but end up crying for the rest of your life. Don't go for what you don't need at a particular time. If you venture into whatever you don’t need at any particular time, the end results will always be disastrous.

If you are a student, be fully a student; don't chase anything else other than books. You can’t do many things at the same time and excel equally in all of them. Jesus sums it up beautifully in the scriptures in Mathew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other…” If you are a teacher, give yourself to the teaching and building of people and consequently shaping their future. Be their fountain of knowledge. A doctor should wholeheartedly concentrate on saving the lives of patients, restoring their hopes and putting smiles on their faces even amidst their excruciating situations. A christian should focus on preaching the gospel and winning the lost in all ways. He/she should sacrifice everything including his dear life, if required, for the sake of the gospel.

However, all these will happen only and only when you invest in yourself first. You have limited time on earth, but if you use it well, you can leave a mark, a legacy on earth that can never be erased from history. In the Bible, in the book of Job 1:3, it's said, “…(Job) was the greatest man among all the people of the East”. Job invested in himself and clearly stood out of the crowd. There shall always be a man among men. This is the man who has invested most in his life. Be that man. You will clearly stand out of the crowd. By investing in yourself, you will be the man among men, student among students, teacher among teachers, preacher among preachers, doctor among doctors, engineer among engineers, pastor among pastors, father among fathers, mother among mothers, child among children, Christian among Christians etc. It's just a matter of choice and you have the power to make that choice. In life, people can always show you the way or even walk with you but they can never walk for you. You know why? Because it's your responsibility to walk for yourself. Invest in your life that you may treasure and value it. Make yourself valuable to the world.
